We invite CSTA members to take part in a focus group, run by SageFox Consulting and CSforMA, to gather input from educators, administrators, parents, students, and community members to inform recommendations for the state of Massachusetts regarding a high school computer science graduation requirement.
There is a national movement to encourage states to create computer science graduation requirements. The Massachusetts legislature is now considering additional policy levers, including a computer science graduation requirement, to broaden participation by students in computer science coursework (see Chapter 268, 7009-6601).
The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has commissioned SageFox Consulting Group and CSforMA to create a National Landscape Analysis Report. This report provides an overview of states with and without a graduation requirement, and the initiatives they put into place to support their implementation. Focus group participants will discuss the report.
View the report and an 18-min video overview prior to attending the focus group, if possible, so that you are familiar with the content and can dive right into the discussion. Both are available here: https://www.csforma.org/exploring-cs-policy-levers/
Thursday, March 14th, 4:30-5:30 PM EST
This is a virtual event. REGISTER with this form to receive the Zoom link.
Note: the focus group is limited to 10 people. If the March 14th session fills up, use this link to sign up for other times that SageFox is running focus groups.
